Reiki
Reiki is the channelling of Universal Life Force Energy through the palms of the practitioner, which are held over various parts of the body for a few minutes at a time. The purpose of this is to promote healing in the mind, body and spirit by increasing positive energy flow. Practitioners are specially trained in the channeling of Source energy, from which all life stems, and have been attuned to the intentions of the Reiki symbols, shown below. However, all humans possess the ability to channel energy and can use the methods below to begin in this practice.

A Holistic Space
-
Your Reiki session is best carried out in a clean, calm space.
-
The energy in the room can be cleared with fresh air from open windows, incense, candles, plants, crystals and gentle music.
-
Begin the ritual by cleansing your own energy, ensuring that you are well rested, washing your hands under running water, and 'drawing' the Reiki symbols on your palm or in the air.
-
Meditate also upon your intention for the session. You can use a mantra aloud or in your mind, if this is helpful.
-
You can also have the Reiki symbols visually in front of you.
-
Place your hands, side-by-side, over each of your chakra points for a few minutes at a time, then above your knees, and over and below each foot (there are recordings on YouTube which time this). Note: a Reiki practitioner can hover their hands over you without touching.
-
This sequence can be followed over your front and back by a practitioner, taking approximately 30 minutes in total, although in self-Reiki practice, you need only manage the front, or concentrate your hands in one position.
-
At the end of the session, the Raku symbol can be used for grounding and sealing in the healing energy.
-
Refresh yourself with a glass of water and time to yourself to reflect.
-
In time, you may start to feel changes as the energy shifts within you.

Simple Energy Healing
It is a common technique to massage the temples when you or a loved-one has a headache. Have confidence that placing your hands over an ache can also bring a degree of relief. Self-massage, when practised regularly, is another ancient restorative method. It has been practised for thousands of years across different cultures for its therapeutic benefits, including relaxation, pain relief and improved circulation. Below is a quick guide to start.

Additionally, the Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping), is believed to send calming signals to the brain, particularly when coupled with a mantra, helping to regulate the nervous system and reduce the stress response.
